SHADOWSPELL Faeriewalker Jenna Black Books
Shadowspell was such an awesome read!! I read the first book in this series, Glimmerglass, a little less than a year ago. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read the second book! The adventure and mystery in this story led me needing to know what was going to happen next. Faerie deals are made, but anyone who likes reading about faeries knows that means there are sure to be tricks involved. I liked Dana a whole lot more in this book than I did in the first book of the series; I think she was a lot more developed in this book. And I LOVE the conflict that the introduction of the Erlking brought into the story! I definitely didn't see his big trick coming until it was revealed. I also love how the romance between Ethan and Dana has evolved through these two books. Their love is growing at a pretty natural rate, which is refreshing in YA. Also, the friendship Dana has with Kimber is awesome! Kimber is super cool, and I would want to be friends with her if I lived in Avalon, too.If you're a fan of the Faeriewalker series, don't wait as long as I did to continue with the second book! It's fantastic, and I can't wait to read Sirensong and see how Dana gets out of the mess she got into in Shadowspell.
I also want to try hot posset at some point :)

SHADOWSPELL Faeriewalker Jenna Black Books Reviews
Still marveling at how well the gimmick of Remedial Magic worked to draw me into this series and how well the great writing and wonderful story hooked me. Jenna Black has moved into my all time favorite authors lists. Her characters are believable. The story doesn't take much to believe either, even though, when pulled away, you can see the stuff of imagination. I can't believe I have spent nearly $30 now for this story and hardly feel the pain. I would have just given up, but this is a darn good story! So, kudos Ms. Black!
In the previous book we enter the world of Avalon with Dana when she runs away from from her alcohol-addict mother for a better life with her father who she has never meet or seen.
After discovering the faery- nature of her father and her dear "evil" aunt, she finds out she's a Faeriewalker (someone who can bring something from the the Faerie to the human world and viceversa) and is forced to face many dangers.
We also get to meet Finn, Dana's bodyguard, Ethan,a young faerie with amazing powers, who is pretty hot and seems to have some kind of interest in Dana, Kimberly ,or better known to Dana as " the ice queen" who is Ethan's sister and soon becomes Dana's friend, Kaene,Dana's defence teacher and Finn's son and many others.
In this book we see Dana face the Erkling who enters the scene when he chases a faerie-pray into Avalon wearing a big black mask with horns; creepy yeah, but nothing more. Until Dana's father starts getting nervous and forces Dana into seclusion in her.. "underground cave".
But for who has read the first book, we know how Dana is, right? somehow she always manages to keep head to her father and to get what she wants.
But the Erkling starts showing interest in Dana for no apparent reason and things get tough.
He did nothing wrong to get on Dana's black book,he even helped her expose someone who was only apperently harmless, but then he takes someone. Someone who she can never can never see and talk to again if not from distance and covered from head to toe in black.
But not only does the Erkling take someone, he also seems to have a blond boy to who her father can't help but feel distraught.
The first part of the book does not have much action, only from the middle part to the end we finally see Dana working her way out of trouble, but somehow everytime she resolves a problem a new one pops out.
But even if the first part isn't action packed, i was not annoyed by Dana who was an entertenig character and some times could come out with some witty response.
I liked the father- daughter relation ship they had, even if he was cold as ice; but it was his few heart warming gestures that made me appreciate him, even if it was only a smile or a pat on the shoulder.
Dana's mom just annoyed me.
There wasn't much character development exept maybe for Ethan, but who could blame him after all that happened?
The relationship between Dana and Ethan becames more intense, but also her friendship with Kimberly and strangely even Kaene, who openly admitted it at the end of the book.
Not that i would have doubted his friendship, but i always thought that neither were going to admit openly that they cared for each other.
Anyways i liked the book and can't wait to purchase the next one to see how it all turns out.
While now living in a secret location, Dana still tries to have as normal of a life (as possible). However, not long after her relocation, The Hunt arrive in Avalon. Led by the famous Erlking, the Hunt has only one main priority- to kill without boundaries. As Dana still doesn't understand the problems their arrival can create- she still acts as though she has nothing to fear. Though the Hunt seems like just another person waiting in line to kill her, the Erlking has something much worse in mind...
This book was better than the first, mostly because I was always wondering what was going to happen next. It also seemed to become a bit more mature and fit in the Young Adult category much better than Glimmerglass. I look forward to the next book!
I loved it. I really really enjoyed the way this book took off. We get so much in one book. Dana has so much to deal with her mom not drinking, her dads over protectiveness, her fairy boyfriend getting kidnapped, a sexy erkling who seems to want something from her and not to mention the long line of people wanting her dead. There is so much happening that you find yourself not being able to put it down.
We all know the Erkling is the bad guy but just like Dana I find myself very intrigued with him. Also we all know Ethan is a bit of a player but just like Dana I would put my guards down. I find her character very easy to relate too as she does a lot of things I would see myself doing in the situation.
I love the world Jenna as created for us. And these books are just so much more then I ever expected!! I am thinking its one of my favorite YA fairy books out there. I love reading both adult and YA books, but I am sometimes sad when YA books gloss over our "romantic" scenes and this one sure doesn't. Call me crazy but I love that!! I like getting all the details.lol.
If you haven't read Glimmerglass, then I suggest you get on it!!
