This book explores the very nature behind this complex disease. At the time the book was published not many people knew what anorexia even was. The author does a fantastic job describing the psychology and compulsions behind this illness. It was nice getting to see the other characters' point of views as well.

I enjoyed this book immensely and would recommend highly. I am reading Kessa, the sequel, now. I was afraid the book would seem dated, but the way the issues evolve, it could be anytime. There are very few markers for time period. Nevertheless, you realize how far some forms of treatment have come.

At the core of this book is the relatioship between Kessa and Sandy. That's the reason I read it. It's two people who work hard together. It never ceases to amaze me how much humans can add to each others' lives.
The book was good, but not much ever happened. It was like stuff was just being repeated with different words, and i didn’t like the ending at all.
This is the the kind of of must read book every teen should have. If I were a health teacher I would even fight to include in the school curriculum.

Many young people see their bodies in a distorted image. They believe themselves fat when there is no truth to it. Some turn to eating disorders like anorexia. This book takes you through the self image of a young girl with this disorder. It is written like a fictional story, but all facts are correct not fabricated.

The reader will be be able to understand the characters thoughts, need for control, and each stage her body goes through. The book also explains what medical interventions would become necessary with each stage.
I read this book in one night. I really liked it. I still cannot imagine doing to myself what Kessa did to herself. It's not an act to get attention, it's a real disease. Anyone who has it really needs help. I think that Kessa had a lot of courage. There was no way I could have stayed awake during the chest tube procedure. It was so graphic that I almost fainted. This author is very talented. He really gives an insight into the minds of these young girls.
I remembered reading this book as an adolescent, and wanted to read it again. This book is poignant, emotional, and highlights how dramatically eating disorders can affect youth.
I love this book/I can relate to thes character of Kessa. I understand why the character morphed into a eating disorder and it's similar to anyone who self harms. Definitely a good read/I highly recommend this to all self harmers/Ed patients.
I thought this was an okay fictional book, although a little corny with the dialogue and some of the situations in the book, I felt that the book really attempted to put the seriousness of eating disorders up front. I like how the author made the character Francesca's eating disorder a mental disorder too. I've never had an eating disorder so I don't know what goes through the mind of a person who is suffering from an eating disorder. For the author to give Francesca a mental disorder that came about from her eating disorder made it easier for me to have sympathy for Francesca's disorder as she struggled to understand why and how she was punishing herself. Francesca's disorder was not about refusing to eat to lose weight so much as it was about the thoughts in her head and how she formed a warped perception of herself.
This book explores the very nature behind this complex disease. At the time the book was published not many people knew what anorexia even was. The author does a fantastic job describing the psychology and compulsions behind this illness. It was nice getting to see the other characters' point of views as well.
